Uses:

Treats respiratory tract infections, skin infections, otitis media, sexually transmitted infections, and some diarrheal diseases

Dosage:

Adults: 500 mg once daily for 3–5 days or 500 mg day 1, then 250 mg daily for 4 days

Side Effects:

Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, QT prolongation (rare)

Warnings & Precautions:

Caution in patients with liver disease or heart rhythm disorders; risk of QT prolongation

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Generally safe in pregnancy (Category B); excreted in breast milk—use with caution

Drug Interactions:

Caution with drugs that prolong QT interval; may increase levels of digoxin, warfarin

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to azithromycin or other macrolides
