Dosage:

Adults and children ≥12 years:
4 mg every 4–6 hours (max 24 mg/day) -
Children 6–12 years:
2 mg every 4–6 hours (max 12 mg/day) -
Children 1–5 years:
1 mg every 4–6 hours (max 6 mg/day)
Use syrup formulation for young children. Avoid in infants <1 year unless prescribed.
Side Effects:
Common:
Drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, headache, blurred vision, constipation
Serious (rare):
Allergic reactions, confusion (especially in elderly), excitation in children, urinary retention

Increased sedation with:

Alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, antipsychotics, antidepressants (TCAs, MAOIs)

MAO inhibitors prolong and intensify anticholinergic and CNS effects – avoid concurrent use
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to chlorphenamine or similar antihistamines

Use of MAO inhibitors within the past 14 days
