Dosage:

Adults: 10 mL three to four times daily
Children 6–12 years: 5 mL three to four times daily
Children 2–6 years: 2.5–5 mL three times daily
Children <2 years: Use only if prescribed

Side Effects:

Common:

• Drowsiness

• Dizziness

• Dry mouth

• Nausea

Less common:

• Blurred vision

• Constipation

• Urinary retention

Rare:

• Allergic reactions (rash, swelling)

Warnings & Precautions:

• May cause drowsiness; avoid driving or operating machinery.

• Avoid alcohol and other sedatives.

• Use cautiously in glaucoma, prostatic enlargement, asthma, and elderly patients.

• Do not combine with other antihistamine-containing medicines.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Use only if clearly necessary and prescribed by a healthcare professional.

• Diphenhydramine may pass into breast milk and cause sedation in infants.

Drug Interactions:

• CNS depressants (alcohol, sedatives) – increased sedation

• MAO inhibitors – enhanced anticholinergic effects

• Other antihistamines or cough medicines – additive effects

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to diphenhydramine, guaifenesin, menthol, or any excipient

• Use with MAO inhibitors (or within 14 days of stopping them)

• Severe respiratory depression
