Dosage:

Adults:

  • Initial: 5 mg three times daily

  • Increase gradually every 3 days based on response

  • Usual maintenance: 30–80 mg daily in divided doses

  • Maximum: 80 mg per day (unless otherwise directed)

Children:

  • Dose individualized based on body weight and condition

⚠️ Do not stop abruptly — taper gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

Side Effects:

Common:

  • Drowsiness

  • Dizziness

Less common:

  • Hypotension

Serious (rare):

  • Respiratory depression

Warnings & Precautions:

  • Avoid alcohol (increases CNS depression).

Drug Interactions:

  • Alcohol and other CNS depressants (↑ sedation)

  • Tricyclic antidepressants (may enhance muscle relaxation)
