Uses:

reatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions where bacterial infection (or risk of infection) co-exists, including:

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye).
  • Keratitis (corneal bacterial infection).
  • Blepharitis or other anterior segment inflammation with bacterial component.
  • Post-operative ocular inflammation/infection prophylaxis (e.g., after eye surgery).
  • Sometimes for otitis externa (ear canal infection/inflammation—off-label or dual-use in some labels).
Relieves redness, swelling, pain, discharge, and irritation while treating/killing susceptible bacteria. Not for viral (e.g., herpes), fungal, or non-infectious eye conditions (steroid alone may worsen fungal/viral infections). Use only when bacterial involvement is suspected/confirmed.

Dosage:

Instill into affected eye(s) only; wash hands; tilt head back, pull lower lid down, instill without touching eye. Blink gently; close eye 1–2 minutes (press inner corner to reduce drainage). Typical (follow label/doctor exactly):
Adults and children (if advised): 1–2 drops in affected eye(s) every 4–6 hours.
During initial 24–48 hours (severe cases): Increase to every 2 hours while awake.
Duration: Usually 7–14 days (complete full course even if symptoms improve); doctor may adjust based on response.
If using other eye drops, wait 5–10 minutes between applications. Remove soft contact lenses before use (wait 15 minutes after to reinsert—may discolor lenses).

Side Effects:

Common (mild/transient): Temporary burning/stinging/irritation upon instillation, blurred vision (short-term), redness, itching, dryness, tearing, foreign body sensation.
Less common: Headache, bad taste (if drains to throat), periocular/facial edema, photophobia.
Serious (rare, seek immediate care): Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty), worsening pain/redness/discharge/vision changes (infection progression/resistance), corneal perforation/ulceration (steroid risk), increased IOP (steroid-induced glaucoma), or cataract formation (prolonged use).

Warnings & Precautions:

For ocular (and otic) use only—do not ingest/inject.
Remove soft contact lenses before use (wait 15 minutes after).
If no improvement after 2–3 days or symptoms worsen (severe pain, vision loss, increased discharge), seek ophthalmologist urgently (may need culture/alternative therapy).
Avoid in viral/fungal eye infections (steroid can worsen).
Caution in glaucoma history (steroid may raise IOP), diabetes (steroid effect on blood sugar), or prolonged use (cataract/IOP risk).
Discard 4 weeks after opening (contamination risk).
Overuse/resistance: Do not use for non-bacterial conditions.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy: Limited human data; animal studies show no major risks at therapeutic doses—use only if clearly needed (low systemic absorption); consult doctor.
Lactation: Minimal excretion in breast milk expected—generally compatible short-term; consult provider.

Drug Interactions:

Minimal significant (topical/low systemic absorption).
No major known interactions with other eye drops—separate by 5–10 minutes if using multiple products.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, dexamethasone, other quinolones/fluoroquinolones, corticosteroids, or excipients (e.g., benzalkonium chloride preservative).
Viral/fungal eye infections or untreated bacterial infections without steroid indication.
Not for non-infectious inflammatory conditions without bacterial risk.
