Uses:
Rosuvastatin is used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and also used for the prevention of cardiovascular events. During the use of rosuvastatin, it reduces the coenzyme Q₁₀ levels in serum. For the prevention of this side effects rosuvastatin prescribe with coenzyme Q₁₀ (ubidecarenone).
Dosage:
Adult
Treatment of hypercholesterolaemia
The recommended start dose of combivas 10 (rosuvastatin 10mg/coenzyme Q₁₀ 30mg); take one tablet per day.
The choice of start dose should take into account the individual patient’s cholesterol level and future cardiovascular risk as well as the potential risk for adverse reactions. A dose adjustment to the next dose level can be made after 4 weeks, if necessary.
Prevention of cardiovascular events
The recommended start dose of combivas 20 (rosuvastatin 20mg/coenzyme Q₁₀); take one tablet per day.
Pediatric population
Pediatric use should only be carried out by specialists.
Children younger than 6 years
The safety efficacy of use in children younger than 6 years has not been studied.
Side Effects:
- Upset stomach, nausea, vomiting.
- Diarrhea.
- Skin rash; or
- Dizziness.
- Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.
- Depression.
- Headache.
- Confusion.
Warnings & Precautions:
Rosuvastatin
Renal effects, skeletal muscle effects, renal impairment, hypothyroidism, personal or family history of hereditary muscular disorders, alcohol abuse, liver effects, diabetes mellitus, paediatric population.
Coenzyme Q₁₀
Chemotherapy: there is some concern that ubidecarenone might lower the effectiveness of some chemotherapy drugs. People undergoing chemotherapy with certain drugs should use coenzyme Q₁₀ with caution.
Ubidecarenone might interfere with blood pressure control during and after surgery. Stop using ubidecarenone at least two weeks before a scheduled surgery.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Rosuvastatin: rosuvastatin is excreted in milk or rats. There are no data with respect to excreation in milk in humans.
Ubidecarenone: Not enough is known about the use of ubidecarenone during breast-feeding.
Drug Interactions:
Not indicated in the insert
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
- Rosuvastatin and coenzyme Q₁₀ is contraindicated:
- In patients with active liver disease including unexplained, persistent elevations of serum transaminases and any serum transaminase elevation exceeding 3x the upper limit of normal (ULN).
- In patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30ml/min).
- During pregnancy and lactation and in women of childbearing potential not using appropriate contraceptive measures.
- Moderate renal impairment (creatine clearance < 60ml/min).
- Hypothyroidism
- Alcohol abuse.
