Presentation / Composition
Light green, circular, flat bevelled-edge peppermint-flavoured tablets.
Each tablet contains:
-
Magnesium Trisilicate 250 mg
-
Dried Aluminium Hydroxide 120 mg
Mechanism of Action
Both ingredients are antacids that neutralize gastric hydrochloric acid.
-
Aluminium hydroxide raises gastric pH slowly and reduces acidity.
-
Magnesium trisilicate neutralizes acid and may have a mild laxative effect.
-
Combination balances gastrointestinal effects, reducing constipation from aluminium and diarrhoea from magnesium.
Pharmacokinetics
-
About one-third to one-half of magnesium is absorbed from the small intestine.
-
Absorbed magnesium is excreted in urine; unabsorbed portion in faeces.
-
Small amounts cross the placenta and enter breast milk.
-
Aluminium hydroxide reacts with stomach acid to form aluminium chloride; small amounts are absorbed and excreted via urine.
-
Most aluminium remains in the gastrointestinal tract and is excreted in faeces.
