Finosin is indicated for the treatment and control of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in patients with an enlarged prostate to:
Cause regression of the enlarged prostate, improve urinary flow and improve the symptoms associated with BPH
Reduce the incidence of acute urinary retention and reduce need for surgery including transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and prostatectomy.
Finosin should be administered to adults including the elderly only. It’s contraindicated in the pediatric population under 18 years of age.
Dosage:
The recommended adult dose is one tablet daily to be taken orally.
The enteric coated tablets can be swallowed whole and should not be divided or crushed.
The tablet can be taken either on and empty stomach or with a meal
If you forget to take finosin;
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Just take the next one when it’s due.
Side Effects:
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)
- Decreased libido.
- Impotence.
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)
- Hypersensitivity reactions including swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, and face.
- Depression
- Decreased libido that may continue after discontinuation of therapy
- Anxiety
- Palpitation
- Increased hepatic enzymes
- Pruritus
- Urticarial
- Rash
- Ejaculation disorder
- Breast tenderness, breast enlargement
- Testicular pain
- Sexual dysfunction (erectile dysfunction and ejaculation disorder) which may continue after discontinuation of treatment.
- Hematospermia, male infertility and/or poor seminal quality.
You should immediately report to your doctor or physician if you experience the above.
Normalization or improvement of seminal quality has been reported after discontinuation of finosin
Warnings & Precautions:
Do not take finosin;
- If you have reduced liver function.
- If you have difficulty emptying your bladder completely or a greatly reduced flow of urine, your doctor should examine you thoroughly before you start taking finosin to exclude other obstruction in the urinary tract.
- If you notice any changes in your breast tissue such as lumps, pain, enlargement of the breast tissue or nipple discharge as these may be signs of a serious condition, such as breast cancer, you should promptly report to your doctor.
- If your sexual partner is or may potentially be pregnant, you should avoid exposing her to your semen which could contain tiny amount of the drug.
- If you need to have a blood test called “PSA”, make sure you tell your doctor or nurse first since finosin may alter the results of the test.
May cause mood alterations such as depressed mood, depression and, less frequently, suicidal thoughts have been reported in patients treated with finasteride. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your doctor for further medical advice as soon as possible.
Finosin contains lactose if you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medical product.
Driving and using machines
Finosin is not expected to affected your ability to drive or operate machinery
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Finosin is only intented for men. Women who are or may potentially be pregnant should not handle broken or crushed finosin tablets. If finosin is absorbed through the skin or taken by mouth by a woman pregnant with a male foetus, the child may be born with malformed genital organs. The tablets are film-coated which prevents contact with finasteride provided the tablets are not broken or crushed.
Drug Interactions:
No drug interactions of clinical importance have been identified. Finasteride is metabolized primary via but dose not appear to affect significantly the cytochrome p450 3a4 system.
