Actions
Indomethacin is highly nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with marked analgesic and antipyretic properties. Indomethacin is a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis in vitro. Concentrations are reached during therapy which have been demonstrated to have an effect in vivo as well. Indomethacin has shown to be an effective anti-inflammatory agent. Indomethacin affords relief of symptoms. It has not been shown to alter the pregressive course of the underlying disease.

Uses:
For long-term use in rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and osteoarthritis. Indomethacin has been found effective in relieving the pain, reducing the fever, swelling, redness and tenderness of acute gouty arthritis.
Dosage:
Usual dose for adults, 1 capsule each time, 2-3 times a day, to be taken orally with meals or immediately after meals. The dosage for children should be reduced according to the body weight.
Side Effects:
Nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia including indigestion, heartburn, epigatria pain, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, headache, dizziness, vertigo, somnolence, depression, fatigue, and tinnitus may occur.
Warnings & Precautions:
In case of persistent headache, dizziness, lightheadedness or gastrointestinal bleeding, discontinue therapy. Administer cautiously in patients with psychiatric disturbances, epilepsy or parkinsonism, cardiac dysfunction, hypertension, renal impairment or coagulation defects. May mask signs and symptoms of infection. Elderly patients should use with caution.

Drug Interactions:
Diflunisal or salycylates, anticoagulant drugs, probenecid, methotrexate, cyclosporine, lithium, diuretics, digoxin, antihypertensive and phenylpropanolamine may interact with indomethacin.
Contraindications:
Asthmatic attacks, urticaria or rhinitis precipitated by aspirin or other NSAIDs, active peptic ulcer or history of gastrointestinal ulceration. Pregnancy, lactation, hypersensitivity to any component of indomethacin.
