Description

Intamine is a smooth, white cream, with a characteristic odour, containing 2.0% w/w Mepyramine Maleate BP.

Pharmacological Properties

Mepyramine maleate is an ethylene derivative, which is a histamine H1-receptor antagonist. It diminishes or abolishes the main actions of histamine in the body, probably by occupying the receptor sites in the effector cells to the exclusion of histamine; it does not prevent the production of histamine

Uses:

Intamine cream is a topically applied antihistamine and antipruritic used for the relief of irritation associated with urticaria, allergic skin conditions, to alleviate the discomforts of sunburn, prickly heat, insect bites and nettle stings.

Dosage:

Topical application to skin only.

Apply to the affected area two or three times daily for up to five to seven days or as directed by a doctor.

Wash hands thoroughly after use.

Side Effects:

Rarely, sensitivity, eczematous reactions and photosensitivity have been reported after topical application of mepyramine. If this occurs, treatment should be discontinued.

Warnings & Precautions:

Do not use on chicken pox or measles or exudative dermatoses, unless supervised by a doctor. Do not use on extensive areas of the skin except as directed by a doctor. Do not use any other drugs containing mepyramine. If symptoms persist, medical advice should be sought.

Mepyramine should not be applied to raw, broken surfaces or mucous membranes. Avoid contact with the eyes. If a burning sensation or rash develops or if the condition persists, treatment should be discontinued. If necessary remove by washing with soap and water.

 

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnant or lactating women should take the advice of a doctor or pharmacist before using mepyramine cream.

Drug Interactions:

Do not use any other drugs containing mepyramine.
